Iga Swiatek walks past Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-1 to win the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells

Iga Swiatek, Officially the world number 2 in the WTA Rankings with her 6-4, 6-1 victory over Maria Sakkari, is now officially the world's number 3

Sunday's match got off to a back and forth start as the players had their serves broken in six of the first seven games. With Swiatek up 5-4, she worked her way to three set points on Sakkari's serve. Sakkari saved the first two, but Swiatek prompted her to hit it into the net after a long rally on the third one. Swiatek pumped a defiant fist with the first set in hand. 

It was the first time all tournament Sakkari had lost the first set. 

In the second set, Swiatek continued to put pressure on Sakkari's serve, almost breaking her in the second game before earning the break in the fourth game to go up 3-1. She then served at love to go up 4-1, and the body language of the two players indicated that the outcome was inevitable.

Even in the loss, the 26-year-old Sakkari will move from No. 6 to No. 3 in the world and achieve her highest ranking and match the highest-ranking ever by a player from Greece, matching Stefanos Tsitsipas' who also climbed as high as No. 3.
