Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu: "We are writing our own history in the Eastern Mediterranean"

After the recent meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Turkish officials may engage in peaceful rhetoric towards Greece, however, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu continues to evoke Ankara's unchanged attitude towards Greece.

Speaking to party officials in the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Antalya, Çavuşoğlu defended his country's provocative policy in the Eastern Mediterranean, saying "no game can be set up in the region without Turkey."

He added that Turkey "writes its own history."

The Turkish Foreign Minister specifically stated: "To be strong at the negotiating table, you will be strong on the field as well."

"When the time came in the Eastern Mediterranean, Syria and Libya we went down to the field and showed enemies and friends that without us no game can be set up," he said, adding: "We stated that we are writing our own story and we are not playing anyone's script."
