Share

Greece has offered to take in any children from Ukraine in need of cancer treatment given that battle-torn country no longer has the capability to offer adequate health services, according to the Health Minister Thanos Plevris.

On Tuesday,  Health Minister Thanos Plevris had a teleconference with his Ukrainian counterpart Victor Liashko, with the participation of the governor of the children's hospitals "Aghia Sofia" and "P&A Kyriakou", Emmanuel Papasavvas.

The main topic of discussion was the transfer of children suffering from cancer, as well as their families, from Ukraine to the Pediatric Oncology Unit-Marianna V. Vardinogianni "ELPIDA" of the "Agia Sofia" Hospital, in order to complete their treatment.

This move was an initiative of the president of the Association "ELPIDA-Association of Friends of Children with Cancer" Marianna V. Vardinogianni, which will ensure the safe transfer of children from Ukraine to Greece, as well as providing hospitality for their families in the ELPIDA Hostel or in apartments near the Oncology Unit for as long as it is needed.

In addition, Liashko asked Plevris to consider the possibility accepting war wounded from Ukraine for recovery and rehabilitation in healthcare facilities in Greece.
