Erdoğan: "We are a military nation with power in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan praised the capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces, making a provocative report on "successes" - among other things - in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.

"Our history books describe us as a military nation," said Erdoğan, praising the capabilities and strength of the Turkish military, reiterating provocative claims in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.

"You know that history books describe us as a military nation. We have proved many times that when it comes to defending the homeland.

"Comparing our people with other societies, we can easily see that the job of a soldier is not so much a job of a weapon but of a heart.

"Because of the oldest state tradition in the world, from the past to the present, we are a country with its own army," Erdoğan said during a speech to the staff of a border military unit in Hakkari province in Southeast Turkey on the border with Iraq.

The Turkish president praised the capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces, making a provocative report on "successes" - among other things - in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.

"From Syria to Libya, from Iraq to Nagorno-Karabakh and from the Mediterranean to the Aegean, in many places, recording epics with our land, air and sea elements, we feel proud of our successes. Of course, it was not easy to get to this point," he stressed.

As he pointed out after the failed coup of 2016 in Turkey, the Armed Forces were "cleared" by the coup leaders and have now returned to their old "glorious" position.

"We had at our disposal an army that, under the shadow of guardianship and coups, had difficulty in realising its true potential," the Turkish president said.

"With our reforms following the July 14 coup attempt, we see that our armed forces have once again reached this glorious, famous and honourable place in history," he said.

Concluding, Erdoğan said: "They will not be able to divide us. They will not be able to tear us to pieces. "
