First festival of sacred music to be held at 17 of Athens' most iconic landmarks

The first festival of sacred music in Athens starts on Holy Monday (April 25, 2022) across 17 landmarks in Athens' historic Plaka district and city centre.

The festival, a new organisation under art director Giorgos Koumentakis, will present a 'music marathon' of 62 concerts and cultural activities, approaching multiple and unexpected aspects of the relationship between religious worship and music, which will be held in museums, archaeological sites, churches, streets and squares.

The festival is to conclude on Holy Wednesday and is co-organised by the Culture and Sports Ministry and the bodies under its supervision, the Greek National Opera and Eurolife FFH.

Entrance to all venues will be free of charge without advance bookings. Tickets will be given on first-come, first-served basis.

The festival's trailer is available:
