The White House said in a statement that US President Joe Biden was looking forward to welcoming Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Washington DC on May 16.
"President Biden looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece to the White House on May 16, 2022," the White House statement said.
"The Prime Minister’s visit provides an opportunity to affirm our strong bilateral partnership and to celebrate 201 years of Greek independence.
"The leaders will discuss ongoing efforts with Allies and partners to support the people of Ukraine and impose economic costs on Russia for its unprovoked aggression.
"They will discuss our close cooperation on global challenges, including climate change and energy security.
"The leaders will take stock of our joint efforts to promote global security through NATO, as well as our shared goals for peace and prosperity in the region.
"They will also celebrate the history, democratic values, and trade and investment links that have united our peoples and countries for generations."
Mitsotakis spoke with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday and "discussed additional ways to assist Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia's unprovoked and brutal war," according to a State Department statement.
Blinken thanked Greece for its "steadfast support to Ukraine, including Greece's strong sanctions enforcement and its extensive humanitarian and defensive assistance," the statement said.
They also discussed the upcoming meeting of the 3+1 mechanism (Greece, Cyprus, Israel & the US) to strengthen energy and economic cooperation between the participants and advance regional stability and prosperity.
"The US-Greece relationship has never been stronger or more important," Blinken added in a tweet.
In a tweet in the English language, the Greek premier said he had had a "constructive discussion" with Blinken.
"Greece and the US continue our close coordination as NATO Allies against Russia's unprovoked military attacks on Ukraine," he added.
