Greek Woman Conquers Climbing the South Pole

By 2 years ago

Extraordinary Greek female alpinist and European climate change ambassador Vanessa Archontidou, has conquered climbing the South Pole and marked her arrival to the top of the world by displaying the Greek flag at the pinnacle of the iced-snowy mountain top.

Vanessa Archontidou has just completed another mammoth achievement after climbing Mount Vincennes in Antarctica earlier this year. The Greek alpinist and adventurer conquered another climb in the Artarctica, this time the South Pole. Battling fierce winds and extreme conditions with temperatures ranging from -24°C to -1°C.

The strenuous incredible journey consists of skiing, climbing and trekking over rugged terrain at altitude and in extreme weather conditions. A high level of skill and ability is required and an excellent level of fitness is essential and of course technical skills. Each day is faced with the big white expanse of the polar plateau working your way inexorably towards the ultimate destination; the southernmost point on earth.

No stranger to summit climbs, Archontidou is an Ambassador to the European Climate Pact, she has seen the impact of human activity on the environment, even in the most remote parts of the world, and has recognised the need for immediate mobilisation and action before it is too late.
