Australians in Greece advised on postal vote ahead of Federal Elections

442174

The Australian Embassy in Greece has issued an advisory for all Australians living abroad ahead of the upcoming federal elections to be held on 21 May 2022.  If you are still in Australia, you can pre-poll vote from 9 May 2022.

According to the embassy website, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) recommends overseas voters cast a postal vote in this election. If you plan to be overseas at the time of the election, make sure you check your enrolment and request a postal vote as soon as possible on the AEC website.

Australians in Greece are encouraged to vote via postal vote, which can either be posted to the AEC directly, or mailed or dropped off to the Embassy. To send in your postal vote, please send it to:

Australian Embassy
Consular Section
5 Hatziyianni Mexi Str
11528 Athens
Greece

You can drop off your postal vote from Thursday 12 May 2022 until Friday 20 May 2022 between 9:00am to 12:30pm (closed on weekends) . You can make an appointment here Setmore Calendar .

Postal votes must be returned as quickly as possible to ensure they are received by the AEC in time to be counted.

Australian Driver licenses

Meanwhile, as a reminder, as of 5 November 2021, Australian driver licences are recognised in Greece. Individuals who hold a valid Australian driver licence no longer need to also have an International Driving Permit to be able to drive in Greece. A measure that will greatly benefit thousands of Australians living in or visiting Greece annually.

The Greek law stating the recognition of Australian driver licences is Law 4850, Article 25, Para 3, published in Greek Government Gazette A 208 – 05.11.2021.
