Greece has a double Greek presence in the quarterfinals of the men’s and women’s tournaments in Rome.
After Stefanos Tsitsipas Maria Sakkari qualified from the second round of the Rome Masters. The top Greek tennis player prevailed with a 2-0 set of the American, Coco Gauff (No14), showing for most of the match a clear superiority and determination in the critical points.
Now, in the “8” of the tournament, she will find in front of her Ons Zamber from Tunisia, which is at No. 7 in the ranking (the highest in her career).
Sakkari began pushing Gauff from the beginning in her service. She did not succeed in the first, but she made the break in the 3rd game and took the lead.
The Greek Champion kept the serve and then made another break for 4-3. Gauff found herself immediately with two breakpoints to repeat the immediate response, but this time Sakkari erased them, made it 5-3 and then, holding her serve, won the first set 6-4.
The second set was full of alternate emotions. Maria made the break again, Gauff had an answer once again, but the Greek champion made another break at a crucial point, leading 6-5 and holding her serve took the set 7-5 and the victory with 2-0.
