Elon Musk gives Shakespearean farewell to Greek music genius Vangelis

Billionaire Elon Musk has bid a sweet Shakespearean farewell  to acclaimed Greek composer Vangelis upon hearing of his passing on Tuesday at the age of 79.

The SpaceX and Tesla founder went on twitter to say goodbye to the Greek genius:

"Good night, sweet maestro, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest". The line is taken from Shakespeare’s Hamlet- the final scene where a dying Hamlet is held in his friend, Horatio’s arms and where all who plotted for the death of Hamlet, fell into their own traps.

Elon Musk's tweet has already garnered over 70,000 likes and has been re-tweeted more than  6,000 times since first posted.

Vangelis, an Academy Award winning composer,  died Tuesday at a hospital in France, where he was being treated for COVID-19, a law firm representing Vangelis told the Greek newspaper OT.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that the great Greek Vangelis Papathanassiou passed away late on the night of Tuesday, May 17,” Vangelis’s lawyer was quoted as saying by the ANA news agency.

Over his more than 50-year career, Vangelis was renowned for his musical experimentation and eclectic influences. He won an Oscar in 1982 for his theme for the British film Chariots of Fire and went on to develop the scores for a slew of other movies, including Ridley Scott’s cult classic Blade Runner, as well as for theatre and ballet.

“Vangelis Papathanassiou is no longer with us,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis tweeted.
