British tourist, 43, 'reports being raped by taxi driver who picked her up after night out' in Crete

Crete named as one of Tripadvisor’s popular destinations for 2021

A British tourist was allegedly raped by a taxi driver who took her to a remote spot instead of her hotel before attacking her.

The woman, in her 40s, told police she was attacked after leaving a bar in Hersonissos on the Greek island of Crete in the early hours of May 31, reports Protothema.

She claimed the driver took her to an isolated area before proceeding to rape her in the back of the vehicle.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical examination afterwards.

A 28-year-old man was reportedly arrested last week and then released on Friday pending further investigation.
