Greek man arrested with more than 2.5 million files of child pornography

More than 2.5 million files with child pornography material were found in the possession of a Greek man after a large investigation carried out on the Darknet by the Cybercrime Prosecution Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece and Europol.

Police used information obtained during a dark web operation carried out by French authorities.

The user's electronic traces were then located in Greece. The Cybercrime Prosecution carried out an investigation from which the data of the individual emerged and his place of residence was located in Drama, northern Greece.

Authorities arrived at the suspect's home for an investigation, during which his involvement in the case emerged. Four hard drives with a total capacity of 15 Terabytes were found and confiscated.

According to Proto Thema, the arrested is a 43-year-old supermarket employee.

He is unmarried and the material found in his possession is reportedly not primary, but is still shocking as it includes pornography with minors, even 3-5 years old.

The police announcement:

A targeted operation was carried out last week by police officers of the Cybercrime Prosecution Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece, in which a person who possessed at least 2.5 million files with child pornography material was located and arrested.

In particular, the investigation of the case was preceded by the Directorate of Cybercrime as appropriate information from Europol and had arisen as part of an operation on the dark internet (Darkweb) carried out by the French authorities at the beginning of last year.

In this context, electronic traces of an internet user emerged in our country, who owned and shared files of child pornography material, through various websites and online services.

The above were brought to the attention of the Athens Prosecutor's Office and a Preliminary Examination was ordered for the further investigation of the case.

From the subsequent digital analysis of the data and digital data and after relevant correspondence with the involved internet service providers, the details of the person emerged, while his place of residence was verified in an area of ​​Northern Greece.

Subsequently, police officers of the Cybercrime Prosecution Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece went to search the house of the person, during which, his involvement in the case emerged. Four hard drives with a total capacity of 15 Terrabytes were found and confiscated.

In fact, from the on-site search of the above storage media, the police were found to contain at least 2.5 million images and videos with the content of child pornography about 3.5 Terrabytes in size.

The criminal case against him was taken to the competent Prosecutor's Office and then referred to a regular Investigator for a main investigation, while the digital evidence will be sent to the Forensic Investigation Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece for further investigation.
