St. Basil’s NSW/ACT Greek Summer Festival: Resounding Success, Over 40,000 Visitors

An event paying tribute to the Greek culture with participation of some of the most loved Greek-Australian people, entertainment and brands, the Greek Summer Festival held last Sunday 6 June at Carss Park, Australia, was a resounding success with over 40,000 visitors attending on the day.

Hosted by St. Basil’s NSW/ACT, festival-goers were treated to a live performance by one of the biggest names in the Greek entertainment industry - the legendary Stelios Dionisiou - in addition to other world class performers including Sydney based band IHO NYX; plus seven Greek dance groups who performed traditional Greek dances.

The largest Greek Festival in Australia with over 55 stalls and lots of activities for the kids such as rides and face-painting, visitors also enjoyed a Greek-style agora featuring Greek products, information and food stalls spread across the waterfront park.

Numerous dignities from the Greek-Australian community were in attendance at the Greek Summer Festival including His Eminence Archbishop Makarios; The Hon. Mark Joseph Coure, MP, Minister for Multiculturalism and the Minister for Seniors; The Hon. Eleni Marie Petinos, MP, Minister for Small Business, and Minister for Fair Trading; The Hon. Peter John Poulos, MLC, Parliamentary Secretary for Wollongong and the Illawarra, Member of the Liberal Party; Mr Christos Karras, Consul General of Greece in Sydney; Her Excellency, Mrs Martha Mavrommati, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus; Mr Nick Katris, Mayor of Georges River Council plus many more.

Following the great success of the event, hosts St. Basil’s NSW/ACT have received many compliments and requests for the Greek Summer Festival to be held again next year. Watch this space!
