"We're becoming like Colombia", warns former Mykonos mayor - "They wanted to kill me", says beaten hotelier

Mykonos Thodoris Kousathanas

Thodoris Kousathanas is the owner of the hotel "Poseidon" in the Vida area of Mykonos Town who was attacked by a man in black in broad daylight in a central part of the area.

The hotelier started being hit and almost killed while he was in his car by a person who approached him. All the blows were to the head, with iron bars, with the hotelier losing consciousness and being transported to a private hospital for first aid.

The hotelier himself spoke to SKAI about the attack he received: "The driver of the car attacked me. He was wearing a black hat and holding a crowbar."

"He was wearing gloves and a black jacket. The beatings were deadly and was intended to kill me.

"Fortunately, two neighbours showed up and then he got scared and left."

He thinks the reason for the attack may have been because of a dispute he has with a neighbouring company: "It works illegally because they have a temporary suspension of their music license," he said among other things while trying to leave behind the shock of the attack and overcome his injury.

At the same time, the businessman's brother told STAR that his perpetrators had set up atrap when he was leaving his hotel in Mykonos Town.

The Mykonos hotelier received 14 stitches on the head, while he has bruises all over his body. After receiving first aid, he recovers at home, however he still cannot overcome the shock of the attack.

"Mykonos is in danger of becoming Colombia"

The former mayor of Mykonos Christos Veronis told SKAI that in the "Island of the Winds" has a dark side, with the mafia and the underworld trying to turn the flagship of Greek tourism into Colombia.

Mykonos seems to be out of control with robberies and beatings of citizens during the day.

"Mykonos has changed today," said the mayor. "It is not allowed on a small, tourist island for good people and the underworld to come here in the summer."

"Mykonos leaves and goes elsewhere.

"I'm sorry to say but it is not right for governments to pass by and not intervene. They must see that it is about to turn into Colombia."

According to Veronis, "in recent years it seems that various networks are operating here."

A former employee of the restaurant states that "what has always happened and will always happen in Mykonos."

"Every summer, at the beginning of the season, all the prisoners come down, all the people hire them and do what they have to do.

"Mykonos is not Greece, it is another state."
