Greece has accused Turkey of generating fake news of an incident where an Afghan national was allegedly killed inside Turkish territory by shots fired from within Greece.

Minister of Civil Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, in a post on Twitter on Monday refuted a Turkish website report about an incident in Evros, talking about fake news.

In a post on social media, Theodorikakos underlined: "Turkey has a history in the instrumentalization of illegal migrants. It must abandon the fake news about Greek shootings in Evros."

According to Turkish media reports, the incident took place near the Turkish border post of Edirne as Greek security forces opened fire against a group of undocumented migrants seeking to cross into the country.

The victim was reportedly taken to hospital where he died.
