Greek American actress Jennifer Aniston has been slammed on social media for comments she made about the new generation of entertainers, namely, social media stars, accusing the medium of "diluting the actor’s job."

Soon enough, social media users missed no opportunity to pile on Aniston accusing her of nepotism and not being self-made as most current social media stars are.

"Nepotism is rampant in Hollywood—it's virtually impossible for up-and-coming artists to break into the industry. Even Jennifer Aniston is related to industry insiders. Social media has given opportunities to people that would've been otherwise told they weren't good enough." wrote Natasha Abe on twitter.

Some users took their criticism of Aniston a bit far: "You have to sell your soul to Satan ... like Jen did." wrote @ErinShelley1

Aniston made the comments during an interview as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where she expressed her relief at having started out in the industry in the pre-internet social-media era that gave birth to the new generation of 'stars' namely 'Influencers', 'YouTuber's etc.

“I feel so lucky that we got a little taste of the industry before it became what it is today,” she said.

“More streaming services, you’re famous from TikTok, you’re famous from YouTube, you’re famous from Instagram. It’s almost like it’s diluting the actor’s job.”

Some users however, came to the defence of the actress noting the distinct difference between what actors do and social media 'stars' do:

She didn’t lie though. Someone could tell you they’re a singer and you don’t know if they’re a Dixie or an Ariana. Someone could tell you they’re an actor and you don’t know if they do those mini series on YouTube that hire TikTokers or somebody from a Netflix show.
