Greek community discovers "Everyday life during the Turkish occupation"

The Greek community in Sydney was treated to a talk about the everyday life of Greeks during the Turkish occupation at an event organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales in association with the Public Diplomacy Office at the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney.

In his talk entitled "A look at everyday life during the Turkish occupation" Mr Konstantinos Giannakodimos, head of the Public Diplomacy Office referred to the factors that shaped daily life of the citizenry, mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries. Topics covered included the professions active at the time, manners and customs of the period,  transport, means of entertainment, eating habits, and clothing  among others.

The event was attended by the Consul General of Greece in Sydney Mr. Christos Karras, the President of the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales Mr Harry Danalis, members of the Board of the Community, the President of the Greek Sydney Festival Ms Nia Karteris, the President Of the Cretan Association of New South Wales Mr. Terry Saviolakis, the president of the Athenian Association of New South Wales Mrs. Kathy Valis, the president of AHEPA Inc. New South Wales Bill Skandalakis, and New South Wales RSL President Peter Tsigounis.
