From lesser-known cities to new escapes, TripAdvisor has named 22 places in the world that are on the up and up for 2022 in its Best of the Best Awards.
The Dodecanese island of Rhodes has ranked third on the list of Trending Destinations in the World for 2022 whilst the Cyclades’ Santorini is listed in tenth position.
The Travelers' Choice awards honour travelers' favorite destinations, hotels, restaurants, things to do, and beyond, based on the reviews and opinions collected from travelers and diners around the world on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period.
TripAdvisor’s awards fall into two levels: Best of the Best and Travelers’ Choice.
Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best is TripAdvisor’s highest honour. The award takes into account the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings, and ranks the very best accommodations, destinations, beaches, attractions, restaurants, airlines, and experiences in specific categories and geographic areas, as rated and reviewed by travelers. Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award winners are among the top 1% of listings on TripAdvisor.
Also known as ‘Knights Island’, Rhodes has a rich historical past – that of which is evident by its historical buildings and monuments.
TripAdvisor explains why Rhodes ranked so highly on it’s list saying that the largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean’s eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island’s other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile beach.
Santorini is a stunning island tinted every shade of the artist’s palette at sunset.
With regard to Santorini, according to TripAdvisor, even if you’ve never been to this Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea, you’d still recognise it immediately – its candy-coloured houses carved into cliffs, sapphire waters, and chalk-white buildings topped with cabalt-blue domes. Roam the peaceful black-sand beaches or wander the streets of a provincial village like Imerovigli. Beautiful Oia is world famous for its sunsets, which seem to dial through a kaleidoscope of colours before fading to starlight.
So for those who are yet to finalise the itinerary for their trip to Greece this summer, be sure to put these two beautiful destinations of Rhodes and Santorini on your list.
