Greece and Cyprus have commenced a direct ferry service, with the first ferry leaving from Cyprus to Greece after a break of 21 years left Limassol on Sunday, following an earlier event and address by Cyprus Republic President Nikos Anastasiades.

The "Daleela" passenger ferry belongs to Scandro Holdings and has a capacity of 400 passengers and 100 vehicles. The Cypriot-flagged ship was built in 1991 and contains 38 first-class cabins for 110 passengers, 68 second-class cabins for 180 passengers, and 110 aeroplane-style seats. The trip takes nearly 30 hours each way.

Travelling to Greece on this first voyage are Cyprus Deputy Minister to the President Kyriakos Kousios and Deputy Shipping Minister Vassilis Dimitriades, Deputy Tourism Ministers of Cyprus and Greece Savvas Perdios and Sophia Zacharaki, MPs from Cyprus, and journalists.

"Daleela" will be sailing on two-way trips 4 times in June, another 8 on July, 7 in August, and 3 in September. It's last sailing for 2022 is scheduled for September 16 (Piraeus to Limassol).

In statements ahead of the sailing reported by Cyprus News Agency, President Anastasiades commented that, at last, the shipping umbilical cord that links Cyprus and Greece is restored more effectively, providing an opportunity to citizens for pleasant holidays.
