Dendias makes surprise visit to Greek community in Ukraine’s Odessa: “A city with a great significance for Greece”

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias visited Odessa today and met with representatives of diaspora organisations with whom he discussed “the challenges facing the Greek diaspora after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”

“Meeting with #Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov and visit to the emblematic Opera building, inaugurated during Maraslis’ mayorship. Talks on the centuries-old presence of the Greek Diaspora in #Odessa, a city with a great significance for Greece,” he tweeted.

“Greece supports the inclusion of the historic center of Odessa in the #Unesco World Heritage List, by sharing know-how with @cultureGR assistance.”

“l had the opportunity to meet with Diaspora Greeks forced to flee their homes in #Mariupol, hear their stories, and assure them that 🇬🇷 will continue to work for their well-being and provide them with assistance both now and in the future,” he tweeted elsewhere.

“Starting my visit to #Odessa, I met with members of the Greek diaspora. Reiterating 🇬🇷’s full support, I discussed with them the challenges facing the Greek diaspora following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
