Last Saturday, July 9, the play “Medea” premiered in the ancient Epidaurus theatre, and in attendance was opposition leader Alexis Tsipras and his partner, Betty Baziana.
For the first time, the play – a milestone in modern Greek drama – is staged at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, under the direction of Yiannis Kalavrianou.
Written in 1993, Medea by Chrysanthos Mentis Bostantzoglou or Bost is an explosive comedy about our modern reality. Medea, Antigone, a fisherman, Jason, a nun and a strange Dance meet unexpectedly to “criticize the critics, trouble the judges and free the spectators”.
The performance was attended by a large number of people, among them representatives of the artistic scene, such as Smaragda Karydis and Panos Vlachos, but also politicians such as Alexis Tsipras and his partner Betty Baziana.
The couple, who rarely make public appearances, had recently attended a theatre performance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and were photographed with the lead actor and director Emilios Chilakis.
With a comfortable and casual style, which perfectly suits both the season and the venues of the performances, they are always smiling and cheerful. In fact, Baziana, for her appearance in Epidaurus, chose a very elegant and summery dress, both in design and colour.
In particular, she combined her long, white dress with flat sandals and a white scarf, while she preferred not to wear bold accessories and combed her hair into a low chignon, thus completing her ancient Greek style in the best way.
