Three wildfires burning at Salamina island, while residents evacuate towards beach front

Three wildfires are burning in as many fronts at the island of Salamina, in the Saronic Gulf, said the Fire Brigade on Wednesday evening.

They are burning their way through low vegetation at Patris hill, at Lofos Anemomili hill, and at the area of Samari.

Some 26 firefighters are operating at all three locations, with 12 fire engines, 6 water-bombing aircraft and one helicopter.

Another 12 firefighters and 5 fire engines are on their way to Salamina from Piraeus, it was added.

Residents in the area of Propodes of Euripides Theatre were instructed to evacuate towards the Akti Karaiskaki beach front, while people residing at Agios Nikolaos and Agiou Therapontos streets were also told to head to Akti Karaiskaki, via the 122 emergency number.
