Pipeline supplying water to Aegina damaged by explosives

A few days ago, an incident occurred when unknown saboteurs attempted to blow up an underwater pipeline supplying the island of Aegina with fresh water from the mainland.

According to local media, the sabotage occurred 300 meters from the beach of Perani in Salamina.

The underwater pipeline that supplies water to the island of Aegina was damaged deliberately using explosives, the Attica Regional Authority said on Friday.

The regional and port authorities were mobilised following a complaint, specialised divers conducted an investigation, a fuse was found at the scene.

Water supply via the regular water pipe network was a project that was completed only recently for the residents and the thousands of tourists visiting the famous island each year.

The island previously had water provided by floating water tankers or desalination plants.
