For the first time in their history, Greek police have issued a detailed guide on handling violent incidents targeting LGBTQI+ individuals for all members of the police force.
The guide's purpose is to increase awareness of the legal framework concerning the protection of the human rights of LGBTQI+ individuals and to commit to their safety from racism and discrimination in their duties.
Among others, the guide outlines the legal framework, analyses the terms that police officers are expected to be aware of, and provides a list of elements that help investigate possible racist motives of hate crimes in the field.
This includes hate crimes targeting people linked with or supporting LGBTQI individuals, such as human rights activists.
