Greece-Southeast Asia Diplomacy: Dendias signs friendship treaty with ASEAN at meeting in Phnom Penh

Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias stressed the significance of International Law and International Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a stable framework at Phnom Penh on Tuesday.

Greece's top diplomat met with counterparts on the sidelines of the 55th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers' meeting (July 29-Aug. 5) held in Cambodia.

In a statement during his participation at the conference, he pointed out "the need to have a stable framework which safeguards free navigation, as well as safety and cooperation in the maritime environment."

The Greek minister also signed a Treaty of Friendship & Cooperation with ASEAN.

On Tuesday, Dendias also met with the second Foreign Minister of Brunei Erywan Yusof, and with Foreign Minister of Singapore Vivian Balakrishnan.

He also met with the conference host and Foreign Minister of Cambodia Prak Sokhonn, and with ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi.

On Wednesday Dendias will meet with his counterparts of Qatar, China, Thailand and Indonesia.

The Greek Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN meeting that is held in Cambodia on Tuesday, met with his counterpart from Singapore Vivian Balakrishnan.

The two ministers discussed Greece and Singapore's cooperation within international organisations, the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and in Ukraine and UNCLOS as the sole basis to resolve issues concerning maritime zones worldwide, the Foreign Minister posted on Twitter.
