Luis Fonsi Surprise Performance in Kalua Mykonos

Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, best known for his song ‘Despacito’ featuring rapper Daddy Yankee has surprised patrons of popular beach club Kalua Mykonos with a spontaneous performance of his chart-topping song.

Fonsi was taking things “slowly” and relaxing at Kalua, located at the idyllic Paraga beach in Mykonos, when he grabbed a microphone and broke into song, much to the delight of the Kalua clientele who surrounded him, dancing and singing along.

“When @luisfonsi visits and gifts us with a spontaneous Despacito performance,” wrote Kalua Mykonos in a video Instagram post.

‘Despacito’ (meaning “slowly” in English) is a song written by Fonsi, Erika Ender and Daddy Yankee, released in January of 2017.  A remix version featuring Canadian singer Justin Bieber released in April of that same year served to further improve the chart performance of the song, which topped the charts of 47 countries.

The song has been ranked among the best Latin songs of all time.  It was the first with primarily Spanish lyrics to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Los del Rio’s 'Macarena' and has been credited by music journalists for re-popularising Spanish-language pop music.

As of 2018, Fonsi has broken six Guinness World Records with ‘Despacito’ and sold over 11 million records.  With over 7 billion views, up until November 2020, the ‘Despacito’ music video was the most-watched YouTube video of all time.

Fonsi has taken a quick break from his 'Noche Perfecta Tour 2022' to spend some time holidaying in Mykonos, sharing photos with followers on his social media pages.
