A firefighter was bitten by a snake while extinguishing a fire in the prefecture of Ilia in the Peloponnese reported Greek media .
According to Patris News, the firefighter was extinguishing a blaze that broke out early Friday afternoon in an agroforestry area in the village of Neapoli, which is under the jurisdictional operation of the Lechaina Fire Service when he was suddenly bit by a snake.
He was immediately taken to the local medical support centre and from there to a hospital in Athens.
Meanwhile 30 firefighters aided by a group of civilians and 9 vehicles are still battling the fire.
According to authorities, no residential areas are under any immediate threat.
