Tragedy occurred at noon on Thursday in a Roma neighbourhood in Chalandri as an 8-year-old girl was found abandoned and unconscious in a car by a passer-by.
The authorities were immediately called and the girl was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to Proto Thema, the 8-year-old died of heatstroke.
Her parents, a 27-year-old and a 29-year-old, both Roma, were arrested and taken to the prosecutor's office and an investigation is underway into how the 8-year-old got into the vehicle and how many hours she was in there.
