NATO air forces conduct joint flight "Thracian Viper" training over Bulgaria

Joint training “Thracian Viper” is underway over Bulgarian airspace, with jets from Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Romania, and the United States improving their ability to work together on operations.

Planes are operating from Bulgarian, Greek, and Romanian territory for this Bulgarian-led activity, with F-16, F-18, MiG-29, and Su-25 aircraft taking part, as well as AS-532 Cougar helicopters. “Thracian Viper” has taken place annually since 2010, providing a good opportunity for Allied air forces to hone their skills in a multinational environment.

Royal Canadian Air Force F-18s will operate from the territory of Romania, our northern neighbor. The Romanian and the Greek Air Forces with their F-16s will conduct flights taking off from and landing at their permanent bases.

US Air Force personnel will provide for the aviation operations at Elena training area.

The joint training “Thracian Viper” has been conducted annually since 2010 and provides opportunities for the Air Forces of the participating nations to generate rich experience in the conditions of real interaction in an international environment.
