Greek and Turkish academics debate relations in ABC Australia Radio podcast

ABC Radio Australia has broadcast a discussion with Greek and Turkish academic debating relations between their ancestral homes in a podcast called Greece and Turkey: Bridge over the Aegean.

Originally presented as part of the Greek Festival of Sydney earlier in the year, the podcast includes the participation of  Dr Andonis Piperoglou — Hellenic Senior Lecturer in Global Diasporas, University of Melbourne, Dr Burcu Cevik-Compiegne — Lecturer and Convenor of the Turkish Studies Program at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies, Australian National University, Mehmet Saral — president and founding member of Advocates for Dignity, Nicholas Doumanis — Associate Professor in School of Humanities and Languages, University of New South Wales and host Dr Helen Vatsikopoulos , Lecturer in Journalism, University of Technology.

Produced by Sinead Lee and Presented by Paul Barclay, the podcast asks what the future holds for Greece and Turkey given their shared borders, history and often tumultuous relationship.

What will it take to move beyond the shadow of history and to steer the relationship into calmer waters?

What role can the Greek and Turkish diaspora around the world play in helping to embrace differences, celebrate similarities, and break down those barriers of fear and distrust?
