Barbora Krejcikova confirmed Nick Kyrgios' claim that marijuana is being smoked in the stands at the during matches at the US Open
Czech tennis player Barbora Krejcikova complained to the chair umpire during her semi-final match at the US Open doubles tournament that she could smell marijuana coming from the stands.
Chair umpire Kader Nouni then, with a clear hand gesture, asked the crowd in the stands at Flushing Meadows to control themselves.
Despite the incident, Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova won 6-3. 6-7, 6-3 over Nicole Melichar and Ellen Perez.
Kyrgios complained earlier about a similar incident
Krejcikova's complaint came just a week after Greek Australian Nick Kyrgios complained that a fan was smoking marijuana during his US Open match against Benjamin Bonzi.
After the match, Kyrgios explained that the smoke could harm players who suffer from asthma like him.
"People don't know I'm asthmatic," Kyrgios said.
"When I'm running from side to side, it's hard to breathe, it's probably not something I want to breathe in between points."
In Kyrgios' case, as in Krejcikova's, the umpire asked spectators to refrain from smoking in the stands.
