Turkish traffickers arrested in Rhodes - They went to ram a Greek patrol boat and made threats with weapons

A serious incident was caused by Turkish traffickers in a maritime area in Rhodes and involved the Greek Coast Guard.

The Turks raised a weapon and tried to escape the Coast Guard. The two Turkish human traffickers, a 35-year-old and a 21-year-old, illegally transported nine migrants by boat to Rhodes.

When they were spotted by the coast guard patrol crew, they did everything they could to escape.

According to Dimokratiki, after disembarking the migrants forcibly and without life jackets, they sped up their boat towards the Greek patrol vessel. During their attempt to escape, they tried to ram the coast guard vessel, making dangerous maneuvers.

The 35-year-old Turk raised a gun, pointing it at the port crew. For their part, the port guards fired warning shots into the air.

The 35-year-old smuggler ran the boat aground on a rocky shore in Kallithea Rhodes, where together with his 21-year-old accomplice they jumped onto the rocks in order to escape, throwing away the pistol.

Officers of the coast guard disembarked on land and immobilised the two Turks, who were brought before the prosecutor's office.

It should be noted that in the course of the investigation it emerged, moreover, that the 35-year-old had been accused six and a half years ago of illegally transporting immigrants to Chios.
