A professional thief from Houston, United States managed to grab a solid gold Cartier bracelet with six diamonds - worth several thousand euros - from the luxury brand’s jewellery store in the Nammos Village shopping centre in Psarrou, Mykonos.
Managers of the Cartier store discovered the theft the next day and informed the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate. After further investigation, the authorities managed to locate the American woman in Psarrou and arrest her.
At 2pm last Friday, a group of young women entered the Cartier store as though to buy a piece of jewellery. While the saleswoman was showing her the solid gold diamond bracelets, the American woman managed to deftly swipe the jewellery without anyone noticing in the slightest.
The next day, the manager of the store discovered the theft and informed the police.
After taking statements from all the employees and reviewing the videos from the store's closed circuit cameras, officers ‘combed’ the island with photos of the woman in hand, and on Saturday afternoon they managed to locate and arrest her.
Police are currently now investigating whether this was an isolated case or whether the 35-year-old has committed other thefts.
