Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made complaints against the US and also turned his rhetoric towards Greece.
Speaking to the PBS network, from New York where he is for the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations, the Turkish president protested the fact that the US is selling fighter jets to Greece and establishing new bases on Greek soil, while at the same time that they are imposing sanctions on his country.
He repeated that US President Joe Biden promised him a solution to the issue with the F-16s fighter jets so that Turkey could acquire them, while he threatened that in case the American door remains closed, he will turn to other solutions for the supply of fighters.
“Between two friendly countries, it is very wrong with a political approach to impose sanctions on Turkey over the issue of F-16s. Mr. Biden promised me the resolution of the issue”, he said continuing, with shots also against Greece.
“What will we do if we don’t manage to get the result we want from the United States regarding the F-16s? We will take care of ourselves.
“So you’re going to give Greece all kinds of support for the F-16s, you’re going to build bases there, but you’re not going to give that support to a friendly country like Turkey in NATO and a country that gives all kinds of support to NATO?
“We are in the first five countries. In this case, Turkey’s job is to take care of itself. Otherwise, we don’t have a problem with America.”
