Maria Sakkari survives against Baindl in Parma

By 2 years ago

Maria Sakkari returned to tennis today in Parma and she had to fight hard in order to survive against Baindl 6-7(2) 6-2 6-3.

As odd as it sounds it was a typical Maria Sakkari match. A match where she spent a lot more time on the court than she needed to but some of that credit needs to her opponent Baindl as well. The Ukrainian player put up a great fight, especially in the first set she battled back from 1-3 to take a 5-3 lead.

She allowed Sakkari to get back into the match and take a 6-5 lead even giving her a couple of set points at 5-6. She saved three of them to force a tiebreak, a tiebreak which she dominated and won 7-2. Sakkari completely fell apart in the tiebreak and it came after wasting multiple set points in the previous game.

She had better solutions, she had better timing and ultimately she closed out the set 6-2. The final one was another decent one where Sakkari was on top for much of it however she did away with her serve once to make it interesting.

in the end a 6-3 finish for Sakkari who moves on to the next round.
