The Greek unemployment rate was 12.2% of the workforce in August, unchanged from July, but down compared with 13.7% in August last year, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.
More specifically, the number of employed people totaled 4,105,420 in August, up 1.2% from last year, while the number of unemployed people totaled 569,609, down 11.4% from August 2021 and down 0.56% compared with July 2022.
The number of people not seeking job was 3,151,133, down 0.1% from August 2021 and down 0.1% compared with July 2022.
Meanwhile, Greece is on Friday submitting a request for the second disbursement of 3.56 billion euros from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, Alternate Finance Minister Theodoros Skylakakis announced.
This comes as Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas on Friday said he was confident that "Europe will support and ensure social cohesion in the face of Russia's warlike and energy opportunism," as he arrived for a meeting of European Union energy ministers taking place in Brussels.
"Last March, the Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, sent a letter to [European Commission] President Ursula von der Leyen, asking for a cap to be imposed on natural gas. Today, 15 member-states support the Greek proposal, the Greek prime minister's proposal, and call on the European Commission to submit bold and decisive proposals," Skrekas said in a doorstep statement.
The minister also underlined that it was "a foremost issue of humanist and democratic values for us to proceed together," at a particularly critical period in which the energy crisis in the EU was worsening ahead of a difficult winter.
Earlier, there had been an informal meeting of the energy ministers of Greece, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Spain, German, the Netherlands and France.
