The largest US aircraft carrier powers into Souda bay
The aircraft carrier of the US Navy USS "George HW Bush" with its 6,000-person crew, sailed to Pier K-14, where it will remain for 4 days until October 10th.
The George Bush had come to Chania in February 2017, where it had stayed for a few days for the recreation of the crew.
USS George Bus is the tenth and final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier built in 2009 and named after George Bush Sr., the 41st US president.
With a crew of 3,500 people and an additional 2,500 for aviation, a length of almost 333 meters, and a displacement of 100,000 tons, it is one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world.
USS George HW Bush (CVN-77) is home to more than 85 F/A-18C Hornet fighters, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, E-2C Hawkeye radar and HH-60H helicopters.
It can and does develop a speed of 30 knots thanks to its two nuclear reactors capable of continuous operation for 20 years without refueling.
