Wojtek Grabowski: Mitsotakis' father-in-law dies aged 89

At the age of 89 and after the rapid deterioration of his health, Wojtek Grabowski, father of the wife of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Marevas, died in London.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had rushed on Monday to the English capital, where his wife's father was fighting for his life, Proto Thema reported.

As it became known, the funeral of Wojtek Grabowski will take place in the next few days in London.

He was born in 1933, into a family of famous Warsaw pharmacists. During the war, his father was in Great Britain, and 11-year-old Wojtek stayed with his mother in occupied Poland, participating in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 as a liaison officer under the nickname 'Oko'.

After the war, his father brought his sons to Great Britain, where he provided for their thorough education and instilled in them an interest in Polish culture and the need to promote it to the world.

His father founded the painting gallery "Grabowski Gallery" and supported various cultural institutions in London and Poland, including the National Museum in Warsaw, the Art Museum in Łódź, to which he donated 400 paintings, and the Pharmaceutical Museum in Krakow, which he supported with an extremely valuable collection of medicinal vessels from the 16th and 17th centuries.

He was also the founder and main donor of the "M. B. Grabowski Fund".

After his father's death, Wojtek continued to manage the pharmacy chain and promote Polish culture in "Grabowski Gallery II". Throughout this period, he collected stamps and other Polish-looking objects made abroad, such as bookcases, maps, medals and porcelain.

However, his greatest passion is numismatics related to John Paul II. His interest in this subject dates back to the day Karol Wojtyła was proclaimed Pope John Paul II at the conclave of Rome.
