Thiseio Square

Thiseio Square in the historic centre of Athens is finally reopened after experiencing a long revitalisation process.

"From today we enjoy Thiseio Square, a small but historic square in one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods of Athens, as it deserves!" said Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis in a social media post.

"With a simple design, the reuse of old natural materials, the creation of a garden with Mediterranean plants and the installation of new lighting, the 'new' square of Thiseio integrates organically and harmoniously with the surrounding historical and archaeological site.

"Warm thanks to the architect-urban planner Mr. Diamantopoulos, who generously offered his services in the study for its regeneration."

Thiseio square is located off the pedestrianised Apostolou Paulou Street and is lined on one side by neoclassical buildings. On the other side is Thiseion garden, the first of the city's public gardens, dating from 1862.

The historic suburb is found south west of Monastiraki and is famous for the plethora of trendy cafes and bars. Most of the Athenians are in love with this area due to its close proximity to Plaka and the traditional neighbourhoods of Athens.

From every part of Thiseio you are promised to enjoy an amazing view to the Acropolis.

At the wide pedestrian you will often see people who enjoy a long night walk, amidst the lush surroundings. There is also an open air cinema in the area of Thiseio, ideal for the summer nights.

Thiseio displays a unique layout with many neoclassical buildings dominating the area and today it is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in Athens. One can easily access Thiseio with the metro.
