US President Joe Biden received His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa and His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America at the White House on Friday where he praised the Patriarch of Alexandria for his 'courageous stands for the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and for religious freedom around the world.'
His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa visited the United States where he received the 2022 Athenagoras Human Rights Award from the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarch in America, at their annual Banquet on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
In a statement, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America said he was pleased to welcome His Beatitude Theodoros II to be honoured for his “tireless” defense of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and “determined advocacy for religious freedom.”
He is also recognized for his extraordinary ministry in Africa. Following his arrival on October 5, His Beatitude visited New York City and Washington, DC.
