Greece has been ranked among the world’s best travel destinations in the Conde Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards for 2022.
Europe dominated this year’s awards across most categories, and they made up a large portion of the best countries to travel to, which are voted for by readers of the famous world travel magazine.
Greece came in at no.6 on the list of best countries in the world to travel to in 2022 with a score of 89.97, just ahead of Denmark and the United Kingdom.
Portugal was no.1 on the list with a score of 91.22, followed by Japan, Thailand and Singapore.
Greece is making a solid comeback this year as tourist arrivals continue their upward dynamic. Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias confirmed that the country is expected to break pre-pandemic 2019 levels this year.
“We’re aiming for record revenue… we will surpass 2019,” said Kikilias, adding that the exact figures will be announced at the end of the season.
“However, if things go smoothly, tourism revenue will exceed 2019 levels,” he said, reiterating that Greece’s upgraded tourism product supports hundreds of professions and feeds the average Greek family.
Indicative of the dynamic, all popular tourist destinations in Greece are complete, said Kikilias, with occupancy levels exceeding 90 per cent on Crete, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Kos.
