Nikos Papandreou: My mother lives with my brother in a rented apartment

The son of Andreas Papandreou, Nikos Papandreou, said in an interview that his father had written in his will that "the most important legacy I leave to my children is my last name".

Commenting on earlier reports that his mother has millions of euros in deposits abroad, he said that "my mother Margarita and my brother Giorgos live together in a rented apartment in Paleo Faliro. Does this show that we have palaces?"

Specifically the question he received from Lifo was, "What is the biggest lie ever written about you?" with the politician answering, "Not only for me but for my whole family. It was the memorable period, especially the years 2013-2014.

"SYRIZA and Panos Kammenos had accused us of having untold riches. They spread that 'Margarita Papandreou has 550 million euros abroad'. We lived in a toxic climate. The power of the adjective could not be deconstructed ideologically and they decided to do so by aiming at the moral.

"An endless gravedigging. They had to create the image that we are thieves. Now, how many still believe that? What can I say. The only thing I will answer, and I am saying this for the first time, is that my mother Margarita and my brother Giorgos live together in a rented apartment in Paleo Faliro.

"Does this show we have palaces? After all, my father had written in his will 'the most important legacy I leave to my children is my last name'."

His post from Margarita's birthday on September 30

Andreas Georgiou Papandreou was a Greek economist, politician and a dominant figure in Greek politics, known for founding the political party PASOK, which he led from 1974 to 1996.

He served three terms as the 3rd and 8th Prime Ministers of Greece. His party's win in the 1981 election was a milestone in the political history of Greece, since it was the first time that the elected government had a predominantly socialist political program.
