KKE blasts New Democracy for making Greece reliant on "powerful allies"

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) took aim against the ruling New Democracy government, led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in their latest statement, lambasting their handling of Turkey by overly relying on other powers.

The triumphal narrative cultivated by the New Democracy government after the Prague Summit, according to which "the USA, NATO and EU are the guarantors of Greece's sovereign rights against Turkish provocativeness", collapsed with a crash after the latest development and the "permission for the sale of F-16s by the USA to Turkey," the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) stated on Wednesday.

This confirmed what the KKE had said all along, namely that Greeks should not place their trust in so-called 'powerful allies', the party said in a comment on the US Senate's decisions to drop amendments restricting the sale of F16s to Turkey from the bill on the US defence budget for 2023.

"The USA, NATO and EU, as is demonstrated every time, have their own interests and goals, they make their own bargains with Turkey - based on NATO's cohesion and action - and swell the sails of the Turkish government's aggressiveness," KKE concluded.
