Star of Euro 2004 George Karagounis hits Australian Shores

George Karagounis, the star of Greece's national team at Euro 2004, landed in Sydney on Thursday evening to begin an official month-long tour.

Greek journalist Nick Mouzourakis from the Football Brilliance Academy greeted Karagounis at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.

He also attended the NikosVertis Concert in Melbourne last Saturday Night.

The next day, Vertis and Karagounis watched Greek Australian spartan warrior George Kambosos Jr go down to American Devin Haney.

The highly-rated 23-year-old successfully Haney defended his WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO belts at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena in a unanimous points decision, with one judge scoring the bout 119-109 in his favour and the other two both having it 118-110.

The former footballer is in Australia as part of an official tour organised by Football Brilliance Academy and the Heartbeat of Football Foundation. He formerly played for Panathinaikos, Inter Milan, and Fulham.

On Sunday, October 23, at Lambert Park in Leichhardt, Karagounis will don his boots once more to relive his glory days in football.

The gates open at 2 pm, and before the charity game begins at 5 pm, Karagounis will train young players for the Football Brilliance Academy.

George Karagounis is the player with the most caps in the history of the Greece national team, having made 139 appearances at the international level between 1999 and 2014.

11 players from Karagounis will compete against a side made up of current and former professional footballers.

Tickets for the "Karagounis Legends Game" on Sunday, October 23, are available for purchase individually for $25 or as a family pack of five for $100. You can buy tickets online here through Eventbrite.
