Çavuşoğlu: The US upset the balance in Cyprus - The Greeks do not want a solution to the Cyprus problem

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu found the opportunity to blame Greece for the lack of a solution to the Cyprus problem in statements he made on Friday from Myrsine (Μυρσίνη, Turkish: Mersin).

The Turkish Foreign Minister said that "we made efforts for a solution in Cyprus, but we saw once again that the Greek Cypriots do not want to share anything with the Turkish Cypriots. Regardless, we will restore Cyprus. There are some politicians who are bothered by it, but let's leave it at that."

He then again showed Ankara's annoyance at the lifting of the embargo on US arms sales to Nicosia.

"The US has upset the balance in Cyprus as the arms embargo has been lifted on the Greek Cypriot side. I asked Blinken why they did that. He replied that (the Greek Cypriots) collaborated with us on money laundering.

"And I asked him again, 'do you give them weapons in return? Who are you giving the weapons to? You give them against the Turks.'

"We will do whatever is necessary. They decide and Turkey decides for itself.

"We say this both for Greece and for the Greek Cypriot side. It doesn't matter who is with them, but who is against them.

"It doesn't matter who is behind them, what matters is Turkey."

Cavusoglu also spoke about energy, saying that the nuclear plant in Akkuyu will cover 10% of Turkey's energy needs, while he called on the US to lift sanctions against Saudi Arabia, in order to improve oil prices.
