40 Greek flags flying proudly in Australian capital in honour of 28th October 1940

40 Greek flags are flying proudly in the Australian capital of Canberra until Nov 4th to celebrate and remember the Heroes of 28th October, 1940 (OXI Day).
The flying of the Greek flags coincided with the official visit to Australia by Greece's Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr Nikolaos Hardalias.
The Deputy Minister held meetings with colleagues at Parliament House followed by a reception at the Embassy of Greece where over 100 people attended.

On Saturday, 22 October, Hardalias had a meeting with the Premier of Victoria, Mr. Daniel Andrews, on the sidelines of the events of the expatriate Festival "ANTIPODES 2022".

During their meeting  Hardalias and Andrews confirmed the historically close relations between Greece and Australia, which are based on historical, expatriate and religious ties. They discussed issues of mutual interest, with a focus on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations in multiple areas, including issues that concern the large Greek Diaspora community.

Hardalias met on Sunday with the bishop of Sozopolis Kyriakos and with the Greek-Australian deputies N. Staikos and L. Tarlamis and visited the General Consul and the Greek Museum in Melbourne.

The Minister also participated in a working lunch with prominent entrepreneurs of the Diaspora in Melbourne. They exchanged views on issues of cooperation and investments in the Greek economy which, despite the ongoing international crises, is growing fast, the Defence Ministry said in an announcement.

Mr Hardalias laid a wreath at the Hellenic War Memorial during his visit to Canberra.
