Greek Deputy Defence Minister Nikos Hardalias concluded his meetings with Australian government officials yesterday in the capital Canberra as part of his official visit to the country.

Before flying to Adelaide, the minister met at the Department of Defence with the Department's Chief Secretary Greg Moriarty and Deputy Chief of the Australian Armed Forces Vice Admiral David Johnston.

Hardalias noted that in a "particularly cordial atmosphere, we discussed matters of mutual interest. At the centre of our discussion was the desire for bilateral cooperation in the fields of military education, with the development and implementation of joint programs, with the participation of Officers of the Armed Forces and Students of Military Schools of Greece and Australia."

During the meeting the minister and Australian officials exchanged views on international and regional developments, with an emphasis on Ukraine and the Eastern Mediterranean.
