The provisional suspension imposed on the 31-year-old Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, because she tested positive for the banned substance Roxadustat at the US Open, has opened several discussions about doping in tennis.
Thus, both the ATP (men) and the WTA (women) presented data and analysis regarding anti-doping controls in the sport.
According to them, Stefanos Tsitsipas has passed doping controls 85 times from 2017 to 2021 (s.s.: the last figures are given in 2021), while in the same period, Maria Sakkari passed 84 times.
The Greek tennis player in 2018 passed 24 checks, in 2019 20, in 2020 12, while last year he reached 22. In 2021 the 9 checks were during tournaments and 13 were outside. On the other hand, Sakkari had: 14 (2017), 13 (2018), 25 (2019), 12 (2020), 20 (2021).
