Greek man arrested in Athens for the murder of his wife in Thailand

A 46-year-old wanted Greek man, who three years ago had murdered his wife in Thailand, was arrested in Athens.

The man was arrested on Thursday afternoon by a team of police officers of the Athens Security Sub-Directorate and is said to be the one who in February 2019, murdered his 43-year-old wife of Niramon 'Bea' Aewkaew in Phuket.

After the murder, on February 16 and according to the investigation of the Authorities in Cherngtalay, the Greek man left the apartment he was renting in Bang Tao, where his wife's body was found, and went to Phuket International Airport where he took the flight for Dubai.

Thai media had dealt extensively with the brutal murder of the 43-year-old beautician, with Police Chief Col Sen Kwannimit declaring that "If he returns to Thailand, he will be arrested".

The scene of death

The unfortunate woman met a tragic death in February 2019 in Bang Tao. The beautician had not shown any signs of life to her family for several days as all communication had stopped. So they contacted the owner of the apartment who went inside and was confronted with the appalling sight.

The 43-year-old was lying dead in bed with a black cloth over her mouth and handcuffed. The last time Bea was seen alive was on the evening of February 11 when security cameras caught the couple entering the room.

The arrested man, who worked as a security guard in a night shop in Athens and has a daughter, married the beautician in 2016.

Relatives of the unfortunate woman speak of a strange and irritable, highly manipulative man who wanted to control his wife's every move. They also said he was insanely jealous and told her that if she left him he would kill her.
