Greek opposition leaders congratulate Lula on his victory in Brazil: "A sign of hope - Victory against the far-right"

Opposition leaders in Greece have congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his election victory against Jair Bolsonaro in the Brazilian presidential elections.

The head of the opposition PASOK-Movement for Change party, Nikos Androulakis, welcomed the election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva against the far-right president in Brazil, in a social media message posted on Monday.

"President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's victory in the elections is a sign of hope for the people of Brazil," Androulakis said. "Hope for the respect of democratic institutions, for the rule of law and for greater social justice."

According to the party leader, the defeat of Bolsonaro and his "Trumpist" philosophy opens up the path for better and sincere cooperation with the European Union against global challenges, such as the efforts to contain the climate crisis and especially to protect the vital global resource that is the Amazon rainforest.

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras on Monday sent his own congratulations to Lula for his election.

"Congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Your victory against the far-right, despite all obstacles, is a victory for democracy, social justice and the struggle of left-wing and progressive forces around the world," he posted on Twitter.
